Hello! I'm new to this forum Very Happy
I have a 16 string guzheng which I borrowed from a friend (she doesn't play it) so I've been trying to teach myself.
I've been using the tutorials on this website which are great but a lot of the songs go out of range Sad
Does anyone here have a 16 string guzheng? Can you recommend any songs to practice that are withing range?

Thanks in advance! Smile

yes, I have a 16-string. Look for traditional pieces. You should be able to play most of the traditional pieces on the 16-string.

hmmm, are you tuning the guzheng right?
the 16 strings should be from 5 with two dots below to 5 with one dot above. It goes across 3 octaves.

渔舟唱晚 can be played on 13-string. the range is from 5 with two dots below to 1 with 1 dot above. There shouldn't be any version you found that goes out of this range.

:O
no wonder...
i tuned it from 1 with one dot below to 1 with two above...
i followed the picture for the 21 string except without the last 5.

so if i tune string 16 to 5 with 2 dots should it be A?
which would make the green strings 2?

Its so hard to find info on 16 string guzheng. Thanks for replying Very Happy

your 16-string has green strings? so it's not a steel-string then.
anyway, 16-string is usually tuned in G major, where 1=G. So the 5s are tuned to D.

it doesn't really matter. Traditional pieces were written in G major originally. We are just playing in D major nowadays. It seems those are the only type of songs you can play on the 16-string any way.
